Report of Marie-Paule's trip in January/February 2012.
The school year has well started. Little Souleymane is not longer in the kindergarten, but has started in CI, the equivalent of the high maternal where they begin to learn reading and writing. Liliane Rose has began her final year as a seamstress and was apprenticed to a tailor. All others continue their studies with very satisfactory results. Regarding Yuga, who had poor school results last year, with the consent of his mother he has been enrolled in a boarding school in Gossas, located 200 kms from Dakar, far from his wrong crowd. We visited him, he loves his new school and internship. His grades have improved well. The boarding school is very spartan, the food is very monotonous and we improved the ordinary by bringing a bag of 50 kg of oranges, cookies, limonade and milk powder.
M'Bour children feel very concerned about their education and are extremely grateful to our association for giving them this chance. We also help their families for food, medical and dental care. Where I think we've reached our goal, is that they assure me by themselves, once they will have a good situation, they will do for others what we have done for them.
Regarding brother Dominic, he is really happy with his new car which offers him many services. Currently he has another project underway: opening a school. A first class began, with the help of a French association. He want to open each year an additional class and asks a parents participation to finance the teachers' salaries. But of course his project will need funds to build the premises. Anyone interested in helping can contact me personally by
mail at info@lumieres.lu.
I encourage many people who are interested in our work to come to Senegal to see how our work is done and take the opportunity to spend a few days holiday in Saly. The beaches are lovely and fishing enthusiasts will be served . Next trip: late September to late October for back to school. During the last week of September I plan to invite some children for a 4 day trip to St. Louis, at Sanctuary Bird Park and then back through the gates of the desert, with a overnight in tents at Lompoul. Those who want to join us are welcome. Everyone pays their fee of course. If you are interested, please contact me at the latest by June 30th.
